1. Installing a License Server

  1. Download the license server zip (link at the top of this page) and extract it. In this example, it has been extracted to the Documents folder.

  2. The license server should be installed as a Windows service. When installed as a service, it will continue running even when no Windows users are logged in. To install it as a service you must start a command prompt as administrator - right click on Start and choose Command Prompt (Admin) form the context menu.

    command prompt admin

  3. Browse to the license server installation folder and type rlm -install_service -dlog log.txt (you can copy and paste this line into the command prompt).

  4. The service has been installed, but it has NOT been started. Click on Start and type services, then right click on Services and select Run as administrator.

  5. On the Services window search for RLM, select it and start the service.

  6. The last step is to allow rlm.exe through the firewall. Open the Windows Firewall and click on Allow an app or feature through Windows Firewall.

  7. Now, click on Change Settings followed by Allow another app.... Browse to the license server folder and select rlm.exe
